The Bachelor of Technology in Electronics and Communication
is an engineering degree which has a good scope. The candidates can find large
number of opportunities after B.Tech in Electronics and Communication. There
are various higher studies options as well for candidates after B.Tech in
Electronics and Communication. There are many manufacturing companies in India.
This increases the job opportunities for graduates with B.Tech in Electronics
and Communication. The candidates can find job opportunities in different areas
like Power Sector, Software Engineering, Telecommunication, Hardware
Manufacturing, etc.
“Electronics and Communication Engineering” is one of the
fastest growing field of engineering study. It involves the transmission of
information across the channel.
What is the difference between electrical engineering and
electronics engineering fields?
- The basic study of ECE is just as the electronics engineering, and communication engineering is an additional field in electronics engineering.
- “Electronics and Communication Engineering deals with the electronic devices and software applications. It is an interface of chip level hardware and information technology”
- The history of electronics engineering is too ancient but it comes in race with the invention of Radio and Telegraph. At that time the Electronics and Communication Engineering was known as the Radio Engineering.
- The Electronics and communication Engineering has been emerged in around 1950s.
Course & Duration
Electronics and communication engineering is an emerging
field of engineering.
In first half of the course, the students go through the
basic engineering concept, physics, mathematics and chemistry. In the second
half of the course, the students go through the core study of communication
such as design, digital electronics, fundamental of Electronics engineering,
signal & circuit, electronic circuits, VLSI, power electronics, computer
architecture, and control systems. After completion of UG degree the students are designated as
the Bachelor of Engineering or Bachelor of Technology, depending on the
University.A bachelor degree usually covers the mathematics, physics,
and computer science. You can choose the Electronics and Communication Engineering,
once you have completed your 10 or 10+2 examination with mathematics and
science. The academic criterion of Electronics and Communication
Engineering is divided into three courses/programmes as follows:
Diploma courses leading to the polytechnic diploma of 3 years
duration. (after 10th or 12th) UG courses leading to the B.Tech (Bachelor of Technology)
degree of 4 years duration. (after 12th) PG courses leading to the M.Tech (Master of Technology)
degree of 2 years duration. (after graduation).Beside these, it is one of the broad research fields leading
to the PhD (Doctor of Philosophy) degree.
For entering in PG (M.Tech/M.E/M.S) programme, B.Tech in
Electrical Engineering is must.
Jobs & Career
- This field has an opportunity in two types of companies, Telecom Industries and Software Industries.
- An electronics and communication engineer can work in aviation and avionics, consumer electronics, electricity plant, manufacturing, transportation, communication & telecommunication, computer application, radio & television, diagnostic equipment manufacturing and offshore companies.
- There is an opportunity to get a central government job, state government job and in public & private sectors.
Here are some reputed firms which require the electronics and
communication engineers whenever:

Salary
An electronics engineer has a scope of career in India and
Abroad..If you are an electronics engineer, you can get the initial
package of 3.5-4.5 lakh per annum in India and $60000 to 70000 per annum in
abroad.
Specialization (Sub-disciplines)
Electronics and Communication Engineering has expanded in
various specializations as the following.
Signal Processing
Telecommunications Engineering
Control Engineering
Instrumentation Engineering
Computer Engineering
VLSI design Engineering
Government Jobs after B.Tech in Electronics and Communication
There are many job opportunities for candidates with B.Tech
in Electronics and Communication in government sector. Many companies recruit
the aspirants in Electronics and Communication stream. Some of these companies
are BSNL, MTNL, Doordarshan, VSSC, ISRO, All India Radio, etc. These companies
conduct written test for the recruiting engineers in their firm. The candidates
need to clear the written exam conducted by these firms. The candidates who
clear the written test have to appear for the interview. Another option for the
candidates with B.Tech in Electronics and Communication is to write the exams
conducted by the central government for graduates. They can appear for Civil
Service, Defense, Railways, etc. The recruitment process for this sector
consists of written test followed by interview. Another option for candidates
is to write exams conducted by various public sector banks. The candidates can
even look for teaching jobs in different government colleges.
The major driving force for the present day
Information Technology revolution is the development in Electronics
Engineering. The advancements in microelectronics, satellite and optical fibre
technology, analog and digital in communication techniques have resulted in
developing complex electronics devices, circuits and equipment capable of
implementing fast and efficient telecommunication systems. Real time transfer
of audio and video signals is now possible with recent trends in broad band
technologies. Penetration of electronics has now revolutionized other areas
like health care, instrumentation, automation, remote sensing, signal
processing etc. The basic principles and performance of electronic devices and
circuits are introduced in the course. Design and analysis of different analog
and digital circuits are considered in detail. Different analog and digital
modulation techniques used for communication, equipment and systems involved
in wireless communications, satellite and optical communication technologies,
computer communication and networking, design and development of
microelectronic circuits for computation and processing, components and systems
for electronic instrumentation and control etc,. form major content of the
course. The course also covers the study of hardware and interfacing of
computer systems, programming skills and application of computers in signal
processing and communication. Graduates in Electronics Engineering have
opportunities in Government and private companies for installation, operation
and maintenance of electronics equipment and systems. Defense, space and other
large research organisations employ electronics engineers in design and
development of complex devices and systems for signal processing and
telecommunication. Industries involved in design and fabrication of devices,
integrated circuits, embedded systems, electronic equipment etc have also
provide large scale placements for engineers with this specialization.
Installation and maintenance of electronic equipment used for health care in hospitals, equipment & systems for instrumentation and control in process
industries automation systems of assembly line in production industries, etc
are also handled by electronics engineers. Knowledge of computer hardware,
networking equipment and communication systems enables electronics engineering
graduate helped them to annex an edge in the IT job market. The skills and understanding developed in the course enable them to be preferred, as software
professionals by IT companies.
