Nitte Meenakshi Institute of Technology (NMIT) is an Autonomous Institution affiliated to the Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), with the approval of UGC.NMIT got accredited by the National Board of Accreditation [NBA] under Tier-1 status (for 4 Programs) and Grade-A status by National Assessment and Accreditation Council [NAAC - UGC ]. NMIT is the youngest engineering college in the country to be conferred the prestigious Autonomous Status by UGC/Govt. of Karnataka, New-Delhi in the year 2007.

NMIT is the only unaided private engineering college in Karnataka State to be selected by the Govt. of India for World Bank Funding under TEQIP Phase II-Subcomponent 1.1 in the year 2011.

NMIT has a strong focus on excellence in education, research and promotion of Innovation and entrepreneurship.Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development Centre was established inthe year 2010 and funded (to the tune of Rs. 45 lakhs) by the Department of Science and Technology (NSTEDB), New Delhi.

NMIT is a unique institution which has established five multi-disciplinary research centres viz for Small Satellites, Robotics, Nanomaterial & MEMS, Computational Fluid Dynamics andDesign Engineering & Process Simulation.

First college in India to introduction of Robotics Engineering-Lego Mindstorms and TETRIX Course with Laboratory for II Year B.E Students in AY 2015-16. The course is on the lines of few US/European Universities.NMIT is recognised by ISRO as a Centre for Small Satellite Research (CSSR) for undertaking collaborative research on space technology and satellite development. NMIT has led a consortium that designed and built STUDSAT-1, a satellite of PICO category. Launched by ISROs PSLV-C15 on 12 July 2010. This success is listed in the Limca book of records.

NMIT has a unique Scheme of Deputing UG Students to Industry,R&D Organizations, IISc, IITs and NID for a minimum period of 6 weeks internship leading to academic credits.NMIT offers wide range of academic programs comprising of seven UG and eight PG programs in Engineering besides MBA and MCA. Ten Departments of NMIT offer doctoral programs of VTU / Mysore University.

Student activities

Inter-collegiate techno-cultural fest

Anaadyanta, a Sanskrit word meaning "the one which has neither the beginning nor the end..." is also an epithet for Lord Shiva. The institution hosts its inter-collegiate techno-cultural fest under this banner. It started in 2004 with around 20 events and 19 performing colleges. In 2008 the college count reached 13. Eminent personalities like Kannada superstar Puneeth Rajkumar, former VTU vice chancellor Dr. Balaveera Reddy, Lokayukta Justice Santhosh Hegde, etc. have graced the events. The event has hosted performances by Moksha, DJ Jasmet, Total Mukthi, DJ Goapu, and percussionist Gopi.

Library

The library has online search facilities, a Book Bank, and an inter-library loan facility with British Council Library, Bangalore and NAL, Bangalore.

Hostels

Separate hostels for boys and girls are within the campus. The junior boys' hostel Sambhavi accommodates more than 350 students and the senior boys' hostels Kumardhara and Netravathi accommodates over 250 boys in each. The hostel for junior girls' Nandini accommodates over 250 girls and in senior girls' hostel Kaveri about 200 girls. NHA, a hostel association of NMIT, organizes sports and cultural events, encouraging the participation of hostelites. Now one more hostel is build named as NEW HOSTEL for boys.

Facilities

National Cadet Corps

The Institute has raised the NCC Signal Coy in 2004. NCC unit at NMIT conducting activities under the leadership of Capt.Rajesh.N, Associate NCC Officer.

Games and sports

Football, cricket, basketball and volleyball courts are available inside the campus. The college hosted SRCA Cricket Tournament in October 2004. The annual inter-collegiate volleyball tournament was held in December 2004. The annual college sports meet was held in June 2005.

Soft skills

Campus Connect is a programme called by Infosys that helps students during the process of recruitment.

Kannada Rajyothsava is conducted annually in November as a part of Kannada Cultural Activity organised by BELAKU. Students and staff take part in the programme which showcases the cultural heritage of Kannada and Karnataka.

Alumni association: Nitte Alumni Association has members across the globe. The annual alumni meet is in July/August. Plans to start Nitte International Alumni are in progress. Members of alumni help and support current students in terms of studies, placement and any other support.
